These are the words Australians most use to define our identity, our values and our nationhood – and they all point to a republic.

The Australian Republican Movement is launching a new Campaign Fund with a gala fundraiser in Sydney on Friday, May 10, featuring Malcolm Turnbull, Geoff Gallop, Tom Keneally, Jane Caro and a 350-strong crowd including many distinguished Australians from business, the arts and all sides of politics.

Welcome to Campaign Update 2, the second edition of our new Australian Republican Movement newsletter to keep you up to date with our campaign for an Australian

The Australian Republican Movement is starting to roll out its new campaign across Australia, with new Republic Clubs sparking youth conversation at university “O Weeks” in recent days and a major fundraiser for the campaign, headlined by distinguished republican Malcolm Turnbull, announced for Sydney on 10 May.

Sera Yilmaz is a young woman who wants to make a difference for Australia. She represented Australia at the Model United Nations at Harvard in 2012, has just graduated in Law and is pursuing postgraduate studies on equity in Australia’s immigration program.

And, like students across Australia this month, she is setting up a Republic Club at her university, the University of Western Sydney.

The Australian Republican Movement welcomes the bipartisan Act of Recognition, to be introduced to the Parliament on February 13, as a step in the right direction towards recognition of Australia’s first peoples in the constitution.

“Australians recognise that times have changed and we hope all Australians will embrace constitutional recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the near future”, said National Director, David Morris.
